The Belgium Lory Society celibrated its 21th anniversary this year. Over the years our number of members increased to over 800, and not only just belgium members but members from all over the world.
We therefor thought that it would be better to give our name a more international character. That's why the name of the Belgium Lory Society has been changed into:
International Lory Group
The Blue-crowned Lorikeet is the only member of the Vini family that is held by private breeders in aviculture. Still, the Blue-crowned Lorikeet was in the late nineties one of the most rare species held in captivity. Regular imports have never taken place and most of the birds that are now held in aviculture are offspring birds, originating from bird parks and only a few breeders. If there is one species of Lories from which we know less it’s the Blueeared (Eos semilarvata) Lory. Regarding this species there is almost no information available in books and magazine. The main reason for this is that its habitat hasn’t been exploited: the rain forest of Seram. Seram, which belongs to Indonesia, has an area of 18.500 square kilometers and lies to the south of the Molukken.
